Its raining movies this summer!!!. Tollywood has dozens of movies lined up for release. Few movies have already hit the theaters in the last 10 days while most of them are still awaiting.
Post exam season, Elections and IPL have made their presence in a strong way where the heat is directly felt by the film industry. Slowly but steadily producers are now daring to release their movies as they expect audience njoy this summer as usual.
Already Prabhas's Billa, Jagapathi Babu's Adhinetha & Bangaru Babu, Bala Krishna's Mitrudu, Surya's Vedokkade have hit the theaters. Ravi Teja's Kick, released a fortnight back is creating waves. Collections swelled and theaters are showed House Full boards for a long time.
Post IPL many movies have hit the theaters including Vishal & Shriya's bilingual Pista, Dairy, Ee Vayasulo, Kavya's Dairy, Chandrashekar Yeleti's Prayanam, Superstar Krishna's Neramu Siksha, Ride & Ajay's Aa Okkadu.
Ram Charan Teja's Magadheera turned out to be the biggest hit this season. It literally broke all the existing records in tollywood including collections. Its only his second movie and Ram Charan Teja is Numerouno. Naga Chaitanya's debut movie "JOSH", though released with a lot of expectations, bombed at the box office. Siddarth Narayan's "OYE" & Vikram's "Mallana" also proved to be dud at the BO. Ravi Teja's Anjaneyulu also followed the loosers list. Allari Naresh's Bendu Appa Rao RMP was an execption of the lot which grossed good revenue inspite of being a small budget movie. Stylish Star Allu Arjun's much awaited movie Arya-2 released under a lot of hype. The openings were good & the movie collections average.
While movies from NTR Jr, RaNa which are from big banners and with bigger budget infact are awaiting for release. Small movies are also competing equally in number with new concepts again.
The year 2009 had as many as 100 movies released to the theaters. Maximum of them are direct telugu movies then comes the dubbed movies from regional languages like Tamil, Hindi & finally dubbed movies from English. Surprisingly dubbed English movies did well this year. Movies like 2012 & AVATAR had collections which were equavalent to a super hit bollywood Movie.
The year 2009 for tollywood has closed on a mixed note with few notable but big hits, good number of average grossers and at the same time many flops too. Lets wait & Watch what Year 2010 has for Tollywood :)

Telugu film industry which is better known as Tollywood is based in Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, India. Tollywood stands at position 1 in terms of producing the largest number of films every year in India. With about 300 movies releasing every year, it provides employement to lakhs of people apart from introducing a number of new artistes.
The summer of 2009, around 40 movies are expected to hit the theaters which have movies from big banners as well as from smaller ones. Movies from all generes are produced here. The annual turnover for the year 2008 touched in excess of 3500 crores as per the industry sources. Big Banner movies are usually released during major festivals seasons in the state. Sankranthi & Dussera-Diwali seaons being the prominent ones. Movies here which become hit at the box office also swell at the revenue collections. Established Hero's here enjoy the status of demigods.
New generation hero's have followed the path of the veterans by etching a name for them selves in the Film Industry as well as adding thousands of fan following. Though most of the newer generation hero's like Mahesh Babu, NTR Jr, Allu Arjun, Ram Chanan Teja, Naga Chaitanya, RaNa come with a filmy background, Tollywood is a place where people with no filmy god father around also made their way.
From the year 2006 Small movies gained their importance in Tollywood. New directors with different approach and ideas have made movies which touched the audiences hearts. Seasoned directors have also delivered hits at the same time, but as the budget of the movie swells, the risk also increases proportionately.
Heroines form the north now-a-days definately want to act in atleast one movie in Telugu, which they think will change their career in terms of position and remunaration. As usual the year 2009 has also added a lot of fresh talent from both North & South. New faces like Kruthi Karbanda, Madhurima, Madhavi Latha, Bindu Madhavi, Swathi Priya made their debut in Tollywood. Already leading ladies in other film industries like Vimala Raman made their debut. Child artiste-turned heroines also showed up in the likes of Shweta Basu Prasad & Shamili.
Leading ladies here like Trisha, Nayantara followed Asin to bollywood to try their luck there. Trisha is acting along side Akshay Kumar in a movie titled "Khatta Meeta." Asin, post Ghajani has not had a great run there even after her new movie London Dreams co-starred with Salman Khan released. Nayantara is waiting for her chance who is supposed to act in a bollywood movie along side with a top hero there in the direction of Prabhu Deva.
All in all Tollywood is definately a place to work for people who have the urge and passion to be a part of Cinema!!!.
